Training up the best at Norwegian Log

Spotlight on staff - 04/12/19

Ross Baldwin and Matt Johnson apprentices Nov 19

We’ve welcomed some new faces to Norwegian Log – Matt Johnson (age 17) and Ross Baldwin (age 19) who have both recently joined our carpentry apprentice scheme.

They came on board in early autumn and are combining study placements at Reading College with learning on-the-job from our highly skilled craftsmen. After two years they will be fully qualified carpenters with Level 2 NVQs.

Matt and Ross are following in the successful footsteps of Connor Abbott (age 18) and Jacob Clifford (age 20) who were in the first intake of Norwegian Log apprentices. They qualified in the summer and are now enjoying being part of our fully-trained team, travelling the country and constructing log buildings of all shapes and sizes for our customers.

Norwegian Log CEO Dan Barber said: “It’s great to welcome two new apprentices to our ranks. Building our log cabins requires really specialist skills and what better way to learn than from our existing staff.”

It's warm and it's cosy; it's solid and it's quiet. The fragrance of pine reminds you of Scandinavian forests and summer evenings. Your imagination starts to take you places. You imagine a wood burner, perhaps a desk or why not just some space to think?

Our show home is 35 years old, yet customers still say it looks and feels brand new. That's the quality of our workmanship and the materials. When you step into a Norwegian Log building you're stepping into a feeling and just like our buildings it's one that will last.
