Unique Features of Family Annexes
It’s very difficult to explain what exactly makes a place feel like home. Some say it’s intangible things like the memories you create. For others it’s more tangible and practical considerations. Does it have enough bathrooms? Is the living room big enough to accommodate the whole family?
We have sometimes found there is a hesitancy around making a log building your ‘home’. Will it feel like the kind of traditional home that you’ve likely been used to up until now.
The answer is very much, yes. Just take a look at our Case Studies and you will find a collection of stories about how our cabins quickly provided a sense of ‘home’. Not only that, but if you’re thinking about permanently residing in a granny/family annex (or log home) – there are a number of practical benefits that quite unique to Norwegian Log buildings.
What are the unique features of family annexes or log homes?
The common misconception is that log homes are not spacious enough to accommodate a whole family comfortably. At Norwegian Log however, we offer a broad selection of log cabins, ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms.
Here are a few of the unique features of our family and granny annexes:
Caravan Act compliant
From our 1-bedroom Kelso to our 4-bedroom Cambrian, all our log homes are compliant with the Caravan Act. It might come as a surprise that the Caravan Act is not just about caravans, but effectively the definition of a mobile home in general.
We obtained one of the first legal rulings in this area in the courts over 20 years ago, which enabled us to create our Transportable Log Homes.
Our proven expertise in this area is your assurance that all our Transportable Log Homes are fully compliant with the Caravan Act, from the dimensions to the structural characteristics.
Quick installation
Our log cabins are quick and clean to install with minimal disruption. In most cases, you won’t need building regulations approval when you install one of our transportable family annexes – you can read more about UK planning permissions in our guide to mobile home Planning Permission.
It is preferable to obtain a Certificate of Lawful Development from your Council and we can handle this process on your behalf.
This streamlined administration, and the fact we handle it on your behalf – often means we can get the construction of your log cabin underway in good time with the construction timeline itself also usually significantly shorter than a bricks and mortar extension.
Save on VAT
Mobile homes that comply with BS EN3632-2005 or better and do not have planning restrictions are zero rated for VAT– which would guarantee you huge savings on your initial costs. With prices starting at just £41,995 and finance available it's easy to see why a Norwegian family annex is a viable solution.
