I now feel safe and secure, and I love this modern look
Granny Annexes
As a farmer’s daughter, Veronica Rice knew she needed lots of space around her when she downsized, and her new contemporary log cabin home has given her that in spades.
Not only is the Norwegian Log cabin spacious, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen/dining room, utility/boot room and large, airy sitting room, but it has wonderful views across a big garden and neighbouring fields.
Veronica’s daughter and family live just down the driveway in a bricks and mortar bungalow, far enough away to lead their own separate lives but close enough in case they need each other. The ideal spot for Veronica to enjoy her retirement and feel safe and secure.
“My husband died a few years ago and I looked at bungalows for myself but many needed lots of work or they had too much ground. I then looked at apartments but being a farmer’s daughter, I wanted to be surrounded by lots of space,” Veronica explains. “We then thought about log cabins and Norwegian Log was recommended to us.”
Building one next to her daughter’s rural bungalow, with its large garden and paddock, seemed like the perfect solution. “Norwegian Log dealt with all the planning, I didn’t have to do a thing. It was worth every penny,” she says. “I chose a contemporary design as I really liked all the windows and glass, and just love this modern look.”
The build started in June and Veronica was in before Christmas. “Everything went according to plan. Because of lockdown you’d have thought there would be problems, but everything was on time. The guys who put it up were lovely,” she explains. “It’s been wonderful starting from a blank canvas. It’s so warm and being able to step out of a shower onto warm tiles is lovely. Everything is just so easy.”
Veronica has cannily chosen walk-in spacious showers, comfort height toilets and sloped pathways instead of steps to her new home, future-proofing the building for the years ahead.
Having her daughter close at hand means they can regularly see each other, and Veronica has someone to help with shopping and gardening. “I don’t have to cut any grass which is wonderful,” she laughs. “If we’d opted for an extension for me to live in, then we’d have been on top of each other. This is a much better option because we all have our own living space. I feel much more secure as she’s so near and I think she doesn’t worry as much about me.”
“I am 100% happy and I would recommend Norwegian Log to anyone thinking about doing something like this,” she adds.
